- DR. TAHER ELGAMAL, Inventor of SSL
Dr. Elgamal has invented several standards in data security and digital signatures, including the design of the ElGamal discrete log cryptosystem and ElGamal signature scheme. The latter became the foundation for Digital Signature Algorithm, which was adopted as the Digital Signature Standard for the Federal Information Processing Standard by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the United States. FIPS is a requirement for use in all computers of non-military government agencies. Dr. Elgamal also developed the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol used in Internet security, including writing the patents and developing the original products using SSL. He is responsible for promoting SSL as the Internet security standard at the Internet Engineering Task Force. Within the commercial sector, he developed the RSA Bsafe cryptography products such as the first version of the VeriSign CA product. He participated in the Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) credit card payment protocol, and a number of Internet payment schemes, with efforts led by VISA and MasterCard. Dr. Elgamal has held many executive and board seats with security related companies, including Diversinet, Tumbleweed, First Information Security and Securify (now part of McAfee). He holds a Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from RSA in 2009.
- KEN NICKERSON
Ken Nickerson is an active investor specializing in research and development, software engineering and business strategy. He is the CEO of private investment and R&D firm iBinary LLC. His many achievements include bringing Hotmail to Microsoft as GM of Microsoft Network Canada, early Internet and Network Management to Rogers as VP Development and research in emergent systems for banking and insurance. Ken Nickerson is an active and past board member at companies including Kobo, Atomic Reach, Synbiota, Agora Mobile, Synaptop, SKULogix, docSpace, Chapters Online, OpenCola and several others. Ken Nickerson is a member of the IEEE and ACM and is actively engaged in philanthropy focused on early education needs.
- STEPHEN TAPP
Stephen is a proven leader in the media and entertainment sector with over 25 years of experience building and operating subscriber and advertiser based companies. Over this period, his vast experience includes many pioneering initiatives in television, radio and online media management including production, acquisitions, sales, distribution and brand building. Stephen Tapp is an active contributor to the arts community having served on the Board of Directors of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Science Centre’s Innovators Ball. He has also served on the Board of Directors of The Broadcast Executive Society and currently acts as a director and/or advisor to various privately held companies in the digital/social media and digital television space. In addition Stephen served as a former board member for The Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences for the International Emmys. Tapp recently joined the Foundation Board of Directors for Toronto East General Hospital.
